The heat on the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy is getting hotter as the Minority Leader in the House of Representatives, Ndudi Elumelu has joined the call for his resignation.
Pantami’s past views that appear sympathetic to extremists have led to calls for his resignation.
Citing Order 6 rule 1 and 2, Elumelu stated that following the allegation and admittance by the Minister; he doesn’t deserve to serve as a Minister again.
In his Point of Order, Elumelu made reference to a sermon the Minister gave at the Alnoor Mosque in Abuja that he indeed made speeches in the past where he supported extremist views.
“Some of the comments I made some years ago that are generating controversies now were based on my understanding of religious issues at the time; and I have changed several positions taken in the past based on new evidence and maturity,” Pantami had explained.
Pantami who is also a cleric said those comments were made when he was still naive.
Elumelu argued further that he cannot be in the chamber while Pantami should still remain a Minister.
Ruling on the Point of Order, the Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila said Elumelu came under the wrong point of Order. He explained that the point of order is not suitable for the motion.
